Te Puna Umanga Venture Taranaki is calling all locals with a spark of imagination and creativity to help shape the next limited-edition range of Taranaki Like No Other merchandise.

This exciting design competition invites Taranaki locals to submit their bold, original ideas for a new tee that captures the identity, stories, and spirit of Taranaki.

The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and $250 Taranaki Like No Other apparel pack, with their work being produced as part of the official Taranaki Like No Other summer collection, launched just in time for Long days at the beach and Christmas stocking stuffers.

"Our merchandise is all about celebrating what makes Taranaki special, and it’s designed to be worn with pride. This competition gives creative locals the chance to capture the manaaki (welcoming spirt), tiaki (care for our place), and iconic landmarks of Taranaki in a design that will speak to both locals and visitors," says Brylee Flutey, GM Destination, Te Puna Umanga Venture Taranaki.

"We’re looking for fresh original designs that showcase our people, places, and culture. Taranaki has a reputation for boldness and creativity. We’re not afraid to try new things or think big. This competition is another way for locals to capture that spirit and see it worn across Aotearoa and beyond," Flutey adds.

Venture Taranaki launched the original range of merchandise in 2024 in partnership with Game Changer, a Taranaki-based social enterprise, to build local brand awareness and foster community pride.

The fun and vibrant range includes t-shirts, hoodies, bucket hats, kidswear, and jibbitz.

A portion of proceeds from every sale is reinvested into regional promotion efforts to strengthen the region’s visitor economy. Demand for authentic Taranaki-branded merch has been steadily rising, particularly among cruise passengers, hoteliers, and those with Taranaki whānau overseas, creating an ideal opportunity to offer unique Taranaki keepsakes.
