The Taranaki Alliance is an industry-led, region-backed platform that brings together the region’s advanced industrial engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, technology and other capability into a single, coordinated point of access for major customers.

For national and international customers, the Alliance provides a trusted front door into a region with proven heavy industrial capability - organised, assured, and ready to deliver complex work at scale.

Backed by New Plymouth District Council and Venture Taranaki, the Alliance is supported by a growing group of world-class local firms who are aligning their capability to pursue large infrastructure, defence, and offshore opportunities.

Why the Alliance exists

Taranaki has deep, highly skilled industrial engineering and manufacturing capability built over several decades. Based primarily on traditional oil and gas capability, the region is now attracting new markets to retain skilled jobs, lift productivity and continue investing in people, plant, and technology.

The Taranaki Alliance enables collaboration without competition. By aligning firms under shared standards for safety, quality, cyber security, and commercial readiness, the Alliance allows customers to engage confidently with a coordinated regional platform, while ensuring value and capability remain anchored in Taranaki.

What the Alliance enables

  • A single, credible regional interface for major project sponsors and prime contractors
  • Access to integrated, delivery-ready engineering and manufacturing capability
  • Reduced risk through common standards and coordinated governance
  • Opportunities for local firms to scale, collaborate and compete globally
  • Workforce transition, apprenticeships and upskilling to support future industries

What’s next

The Taranaki Alliance is being established in phases. Further detail on participation, governance and engagement pathways will be shared in early 2026 as the platform continues to mature.
